S200 Biostimulant
S-200 is a latest-generation oleophilic fertiliser consisting of oily micro-capsules between 20 and 200 angstroms in diameter with a balanced nitrogen and phosphorus core.
Description
S-200 is a latest-generation oleophilic fertiliser consisting of oily micro-capsules between 20 and 200 angstroms in diameter with a balanced nitrogen and phosphorus core.
Its specific formulation allows it to adhere to the hydrocarbon without coming off again. This property gives the product the advantage that it can be applied to rocks or sloping surfaces without running off and without the need for repeated applications. Once adhered to the hydrocarbon, the product changes the organoleptic characteristics of the contaminant and slightly increases its surface area for more effective bacterial action.
The outer oily layer acts as food that is easily degraded by hydrocarbon-degrading bacteria, but not by other bacteria. This quality allows a natural selection of hydrocarbon-degrading bacteria over the rest.
Its role is important not only in promoting the indigenous microorganisms most favourable for bioremediation of the contaminant, but also in optimising the available oxygen (generally a scarce resource), since most of it will be consumed by hydrocarbon-degrading bacteria. Once bacterial proliferation is sufficient (7-10 days), the oily membranes will be completely degraded and the nutrient in the core will be released so that the contaminant can be degraded.
S-200 is authorised by the Spanish Merchant Marine for the treatment of spills in ports. It gives excellent results in removing sheens and slicks from the water surface. The product is highly suitable for spills on coastlines, rivers, ports and breakwaters, where its ability to adhere to the hydrocarbon allows hard-to-reach areas to be treated; for example, in the case of the Prestige spill, where more than 10 km of rocky areas were successfully treated with S200.
S200 is supplied in 20 L jerrycans, 210 L drums or 1000 L IBC tanks.
